Dwayne Compton, EdD, MED '07


Dr. Dwayne Compton received his Master of Education from the University of Louisville in 2007. He received his Bachelor of Science from Berea College in 2001 and his Doctorate of Education in 2016 from Spalding University. Dr. Compton received a Certificate in Medical Education Research Scholars from the University of Louisville in 2017.

Dr. Compton is the associate dean for community engagement and diversity and chief diversity officer for the University of Louisville School of Medicine, a role he has held since 2017. In addition, Dr. Compton is a research faculty member in the School of Medicine Department of Medicine and an adjunct instructor in the College of Education and Human Development. Before his appointment as associate dean, Dr. Compton was executive director for diversity initiatives for the University of Louisville from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Compton was director of the University of Louisville’s Minority Teacher Recruitment Project from 2013 to 2015. Dr. Compton was assistant director of Education, Advising and Student Services at the University of Louisville from 2012 to 2013.

Dr. Compton serves on the boards of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, the Park DuValle Community Health Center, the University of Louisville Alumni Board, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, the Berea College Executive Alumni Committee, and was recently appointed to the YMCA of Greater Louisville Board of Directors. Dr. Compton was awarded the University of Louisville Faculty/Staff Favorite Award in 2011 and the Louisville YMCA Black Achievers Program Adult Achiever of the Year in 2008, among many other recognitions.

Dr. Compton is member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and a Prince Hall Mason. He and his wife Dr. Tamela Compton live in Louisville with their three daughters.
