Marty Pollio '12

Dr. Martin ‘Marty’ Pollio received his Doctor of Education in Education Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville in 2012. He was recently named the 2022 Kentucky Superintendent of the Year by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, and he currently serves as a member of the University of Louisville President’s Council. Dr. Pollio received his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1993 from Indiana University, Bloomington, and his Master of Arts in Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1995.

Dr. Pollio has served as the superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) since 2018. He assumed the role of acting superintendent in 2017. For over 20 years, Dr. Pollio has dedicated his career to serving the students at JCPS. He began his career with the district in 1997 as a social studies teacher at Shawnee High School. He then served as a teacher and assistant principal at Waggener High School before becoming principal of Jeffersontown High School. Dr. Pollio was the principal of Doss High School when he was selected as acting superintendent.

The Jefferson County Board of Education recently recognized numerous accomplishments under his leadership, including the building of more new schools than the district has in many years; community partnerships to increase diversity among teachers in the district; additional mental health professionals and special education staff to better support students; a racial equity policy and plan; local business leader engagement in Academies of Louisville; career pathways for students; and the creation of an employee-sponsored scholarship program for JCPS students. The Board also recognized Dr. Pollio’s leadership and his administration’s response to COVID-19 as “remarkable.”

Marty and his wife, Jessica, reside in Louisville with their daughter.
